Faculties from the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences Attend the 4th Seminar on Continuous Improvement of Engineering Education for Environmental Majors and Deliver Reports

On April 11–12, the 4th Seminar on Continuous Improvement of Engineering Education for Environmental Majors was held in Tianjin. Co-sponsored by the Environmental Engineering Accreditation Committee of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association and the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and jointly undertaken by Tianjin University of Commerce and Tianjin University, the seminar aimed to disseminate the philosophy of engineering education accreditation and promote specialty development. Its agenda covered the continuous improvement of professional accreditation, digital-enabled teaching for environmental majors, as well as the design and teaching reform of practical courses. The event brought together deans, department heads and program leaders of environmental majors from more than 100 universities nationwide to jointly explore new approaches for the construction and development of environmental disciplines. Professor Zeng Ming, Vice Dean of the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, and Professor Jia Qingzhu, Director of the Environmental Engineering Department at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, were invited to attend the conference. They delivered special reports on the continuous improvement in the mid-term assessment of engineering accreditation and the reform of practical teaching.

Vice Dean Zeng Ming delivered a special report entitled Practice and Continuous Improvement of Engineering Education Accreditation for the Environmental Engineering Program at Tianjin University of Science and Technology. He systematically summarized the efforts made by the Environmental Engineering program in advancing the continuous improvement of engineering education accreditation, and shared practical experience in curriculum system optimization, practical teaching innovation, and the construction of outcome-based evaluation mechanisms. The report drew close attention and high recognition from participating experts and peers.

Professor Jia Qingzhu presented a report titled *Problem-driven Construction and Generative Development: Teaching Innovation and Practice of Innovative Practical Projects in Environmental Engineering. She shared the innovative practices of the Environmental Engineering major in comprehensive experimental teaching. Targeting three prominent pain points among students in comprehensive practical training—difficulty in identifying complex engineering problems, weak ability to solve real-world challenges, and insufficient awareness of engineering ethics and social responsibility—she put forward the innovative philosophy of problem-driven construction and generative development. Centering on four measures: starting from real practical problems, reconstructing diversified teaching resources, deepening ideological and moral education, and optimizing practical training models, the college has explored new paths for practical talent cultivation. The report attracted extensive attention and high recognition from peer experts.

This participation fully demonstrates the innovative achievements and distinctive experience of the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, in the continuous improvement of engineering education accreditation and practical teaching, and highlights the college’s active exploration and remarkable results in education and teaching reform. Meanwhile, the seminar has provided valuable experience and new insights for further strengthening specialty construction and improving the quality of talent cultivation in the future.
