On December 14, the 2025 Academic Committee Meeting of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Chemistry and Food Technology was held at the Binhai Campus of Tianjin University of Science and Technology. Gao Faming, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Also in attendance were Zhang Si, Director of the Key Laboratory’s Academic Committee, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Researcher at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Han Buxing, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; as well as other members of the Academic Committee. Representatives from the university’s Office of Science and Technology, the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, the College of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, the Key Laboratory, and relevant faculty members were also present.

At the meeting, Gao Faming, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and expressed sincere gratitude to the committee members and friends from all sectors of society for their long-standing concern and support for the laboratory’s development. He noted that in recent years, the laboratory has closely aligned itself with national strategic needs, focusing on three major research directions: marine food, marine chemical engineering, and marine ecological and environmental protection. By systematically conducting fundamental, critical, and forward-looking research into the scientific issues underlying the “bottleneck” technologies in these fields, the laboratory has effectively driven the overall progress of the industry. He stated that the university will continue to strengthen discipline development, continuously improve the quality of scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation, and provide more solid support for industry innovation and regional economic and social development. At the same time, he expressed hope that the attending experts would offer valuable suggestions for the laboratory’s construction and development, provide guidance, and help the laboratory achieve sustained, stable, and high-quality development.
Professor Deng Tianlong, Director of the Key Laboratory, delivered a work report. He summarized and analyzed the laboratory’s progress in areas such as research team development, research quality and contributions, disciplinary development and talent cultivation, laboratory development planning, and open collaboration and operational management, and outlined the laboratory’s future development strategies and work objectives. Associate Researcher Xu Wenzhe from the School of Oceanography and Environmental Sciences delivered an academic presentation titled “Community Reconstruction, Functional Responses, and Food Web Dynamics of Benthic Organisms Under Hypoxic Stress.”
The experts of the Academic Committee listened to the Key Laboratory’s annual work report and academic presentations, and fully affirmed the achievements made over the past year in talent cultivation, team building, teaching, and research. The experts noted that, through its development and expansion, the Key Laboratory has established distinct characteristics and strengths in marine food, marine chemical engineering, and marine ecological and environmental protection, forming the Tianjin Municipal University Industry-Serving Discipline Clusters in “Comprehensive Utilization of Coastal Marine Resources and Environmental Protection” and “Land-Sea Coordination and Marine Carbon Sink Technologies.” The experts offered valuable opinions and suggestions regarding the laboratory’s achievements and its “15th Five-Year” development plan. They also recommended that the university further increase its support for the laboratory in areas such as the recruitment and cultivation of high-level talent and the development of major research achievements.
