Carrying Forward the Spirit of Scientists, Building a Shared Vision for Education—College of Marine and Environmental Sciences Holds a Themed Event on “Promoting the Spirit of Scientists and Building a New Platform for Education”

To thoroughly implement the “Three-Pronged Approach to Education” and steadfastly advance the fundamental mission of “cultivating virtue through education,” as well as to support the integrated development of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, representatives from the Youth Volunteer Association of the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences at Tianjin University of Science and Technology visited Tanggu Xiangyang No. 3 Primary School on November 17. There, they organized a themed activity titled “Promoting the Spirit of Scientists and Building a New Platform for Education” to sow the seeds of science in young minds and foster a deep sense of patriotism and social responsibility.

The event kicked off with a joint launch ceremony held by the college and Xiangyang No. 3 Primary School as part of the school’s Science Festival. During the ceremony, the two parties signed a cooperation agreement and presented letters of appointment. Both sides agreed to strictly adhere to the requirements for the integrated development of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education institutions. They will prioritize activities such as promoting the spirit of scientists and bringing science popularization into schools as key initiatives to foster a long-term mechanism for collaborative education.

Student Gao Jingran, representing the volunteers, delivered a keynote speech titled “Promoting the Spirit of Scientists: Striving Forward on a New Journey.” Focusing on the essence of the spirit of scientists, she recounted the stories of two scientists from our university—Jin Peisong and Long Yanquan—and their contributions to the nation through scientific research. She called on young people to cultivate a patriotic spirit, uphold a sincere pursuit of knowledge, and nurture an innovative spirit. Following this, student Wang Enze delivered a popular science lecture on marine biology. Drawing on the distinctive features of marine studies, the lecture used a variety of formats to introduce the habits and environments of marine organisms, sparking the students’ enthusiasm for exploration.

By upholding the spirit of scientists and promoting scientific literacy, this event has built a bridge for collaborative education between the university and the local community. It serves as a practical opportunity for students of the college of Marine and Environmental Sciences to fulfill their social responsibilities and contribute to basic education, thereby adding momentum to the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education and cultivating a new generation of talent for our times. Moving forward, the School will continue to deepen university-community partnerships, innovate educational models, and diversify activity platforms to uphold the spirit of scientists, promote scientific literacy, and fulfill social responsibilities, thereby contributing to the cultivation of a new generation of talent for our times.
