[Good News]‌ — Faculty Member from College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Wins Second P

Recently, the ‌2nd National Oceanography Teaching Competition (2025)‌, organized by the Teaching Guidance Committee for Marine Science Programs under China’s Ministry of Education, the College of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Ocean University of China, and the National Virtual Teaching and Research Office for Oceanography Courses, was held at Guangxi University. Co-hosted by Guangxi University’s College of Marine Sciences, the competition attracted faculty members from 29 marine-related universities across China, including Ocean University of China, Xiamen University, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Hohai University, and Tianjin University of Science and Technology. ‌Associate Professor Yuan Chengyi‌ from the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, was awarded the ‌National Second Prize‌.

The competition aimed to highlight the role of curriculum and classroom education in the new era, showcase exemplary teaching practices, and create a platform for innovation and exchange in oceanography education. Ten renowned scholars from institutions such as the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University of China, Zhejiang Ocean University, Xiamen University, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and Guangxi University were invited as judges.

Under the guidance of the university’s Academic Affairs Office, the School of Marine and Environmental Studies has consistently strengthened its “Three Golden Initiatives” (teaching, research, and innovation). Faculty members have repeatedly excelled in national teaching innovation competitions, including the National University Teaching Innovation Competition, the Xipu National University Teaching Innovation Competition, and the National Blended Teaching Design Competition. For the 2nd National Oceanography Teaching Competition, the school rigorously prepared and recommended its ‌Oceanography‌ course—a foundational and compulsory course for marine science and marine technology majors—taught by Associate Professor Yuan Chengyi. Integrating scientific research and industry collaboration, the course has been developed as a university-enterprise partnership program, with cutting-edge materials on tidal energy assessment provided by the ‌Marine Energy Development Center of the National Ocean Technology Center‌.

Looking ahead, the college will continue to leverage five provincial and ministerial-level platforms, including the ‌Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Chemistry and Food Technology under the Ministry of Education‌ and the ‌Tianjin Key Laboratory of Marine Resources and Chemistry‌, to align its educational programs with regional, industrial, and sectoral needs. By fostering synergy between education, talent development, industry, and innovation, the school will deepen industry-academia collaborative education and advance the establishment of industry-integrated, branded academic programs.
