On October 10th, the School of Marine and Environmental Sciences held a high-level academic lecture to celebrate its 65th anniversary. The lecture was given by Professor Sun Jun, a doctoral supervisor at the school, and was attended by faculty members and graduate students. The lecture was presided over by Professor Deng Tianlong, the dean of the school.
Professor Sun Jun delivered a detailed presentation on the theme of "Pathways to Marine Carbon Neutrality," incorporating the work his research group had conducted and completed, as well as the achievements they had made. He explained the concepts of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and shared the research findings of scholars on the potential and pathways for China to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Professor Sun also provided a detailed analysis of marine carbon neutrality pathways, marine phytoplankton carbon sequestration, and marine biological carbon burial.
The two-and-a-half-hour academic lecture covered multiple disciplines and industries, including marine biology, geochemistry, resources and energy, environmental effects, and high-value development and utilization, greatly benefiting the audience. During the lecture, the participating faculty and students actively asked questions and engaged in thorough exchanges, and Professor Sun patiently and meticulously answered their questions and addressed their doubts.
This high-level academic lecture provided valuable insights for research and practice related to the dual carbon goals, and also offered more ideas for the construction of the "Tianjin Municipal University Characteristic Discipline Group for Integrated Land-Sea Management and Marine Carbon Neutrality Technology" serving the industry.
