On June 6, 2025, the 2022-level undergraduate students majoring in Marine Science from the college of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, led by four teachers including Xu Wenzhe, successfully completed a five-day internship in Qingdao. This event closely revolved around the strategic demands of national Marine construction, with practical education and academic exchanges as the main thread. It fully implemented the educational philosophy of "theory combined with practice" of the Marine science major at Tianjin University of Science and Technology. Through various forms such as Marine scientific expeditions, university visits, and visits to research institutions, it established a comprehensive and three-dimensional practical teaching system. It has effectively enhanced students' professional practical abilities, demonstrating the country's emphasis on the cultivation of talents for Marine development.
In the Jiaozhou Bay waters of Qingdao, teachers and students boarded the scientific research vessel "Qingdiao 021" to carry out practical training. The students operated professional equipment such as water collection bottles and plankton trawl nets in a standardized manner, and completed a series of scientific research tasks including water sample collection and sediment sample acquisition. In the intertidal zone of Badaguan, teachers and students carried out ecological investigation practices, transforming classroom knowledge into practical abilities, demonstrating the professional qualities and sense of mission of China's Marine scientific research reserve forces.
On the intertidal zone coastline of Taipingjiao Rock, the figures of students from the Marine Environment Department, transformed into "treasure hunters" of Marine ecology, are particularly eye-catching. They bent over the rocks, carefully identifying the intertidal zone biomes, and followed the teacher's explanations to systematically learn about tidal patterns and ecological investigation methods. The salty sea breeze, carrying the enthusiasm for knowledge, transforms the theoretical knowledge in textbooks into vivid ecological scenes before our eyes, making the charm of Marine biodiversity come alive in practice. It also highlights the responsibility and commitment of the new generation of youth to devote themselves to the construction of a maritime power, and injects youthful energy into building a sustainable development pattern of harmony between humans and the sea.
During the visiting study period, teachers and students entered the College of Marine Life Sciences and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Marine Life Sciences of Ocean University of China. The slogan "Welcome all Marine people home" made the teachers and students of the College of Marine Life Sciences feel warm and close. Professor Liu Xiaoshou, the executive director of the Experimental Center and a doctoral supervisor, led the teachers and students to visit 12 professional laboratories including animal physiology, and elaborated in detail on the application scenarios of scientific research equipment.
At the Darwin Museum, Associate Professor Gao Zhan presented the students with his distinctive research achievements such as amphicarp and shared his years of research experience in immunology and aging biology, which ignited the students' enthusiasm for exploring the cutting-edge fields of Marine biology. This exchange and interaction have promoted academic cooperation among schools, provided a broader platform for the cultivation of Marine science talents, and are in line with the country's emphasis and promotion of Marine academic development.
The last stop for the teachers and students was the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Director Wang Fan had a cordial exchange with the teachers and students, elaborately introduced the research achievements of the institute in the fields of ocean circulation in the Indo-Pacific convergence zone, and sincerely invited the students to apply for further studies in the future. This not only provides students with clearer learning goals and development directions, but also reflects the research institutions' emphasis and expectations for outstanding talents.
Subsequently, the teachers and students visited the Marine biological specimen museum and related key experimental platforms of the institute, experiencing up close the strong strength and rich achievements of China's Marine scientific research. These precious specimens and advanced experimental platforms have stimulated students' interest in scientific research and innovative thinking, and strengthened their determination to devote themselves to the Marine cause and contribute to the construction of a maritime power.
The five-day visiting study internship is not only a deep integration of knowledge and practice, but also a dialogue between youth and the ocean. By connecting with national-level scientific research platforms, students' academic horizons have been effectively broadened. In the future, we will continue to deepen the "industry-university-research" collaborative education model to cultivate more high-quality talents for the construction of a maritime power. From research vessels to intertidal zones, from university laboratories to research institutes, students from Tianjin University of Science and Technology have not only honed their professional skills but also broadened their horizons and strengthened their sense of mission during this journey. It is believed that these young Marine science explorers will, with greater enthusiasm and solid knowledge as the foundation, contribute their own strength to China's Marine cause. In the future, they will surely write their own magnificent chapters in the vast ocean and forge ahead bravely to achieve the great goal of a maritime power.
