The Industry Development Seminar & Alumni Association Inaugural Meeting of the Ocean and Environmental Sector was successfully held

On the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, the Ocean and Environmental Industry Development Seminar & Alumni Association Inaugural Ceremony was held on September 20 in the Lecture Hall on the 7th floor of Yanquan Building at the Binhai Campus. Vice President Qu Zhigang attended and addressed the ceremony, joining over 80 industry experts, alumni including Yu Ya and Weng Qi, as well as faculty and students from across the country to reconnect, discuss collaboration, and envision the future.

In his address, Vice President Qu extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the Ocean and Environmental Industry Alumni Association. He emphasized that the association represents a significant initiative to deepen university-industry integration and support the national maritime power strategy. He stated that the alumni association will pool resources from alumni enterprises to build a multi-stakeholder platform for shared development, facilitating information exchange, resource sharing, and business collaboration to advance marine and environmental causes. Qu called on alumni to actively engage in the university's "Pioneer Plan," continue exploring innovative collaboration models, and drive high-quality industry development through tangible outcomes.

Deng Tianlong, Dean of the College of Ocean and Environmental Science, delivered the welcome address. On behalf of the college, he extended a warm welcome to all distinguished guests, alumni, faculty, and students in attendance. In his speech, Dean Deng outlined the college's progress in disciplinary development, faculty development, and international collaboration. He called upon industry alumni to uphold the university motto of "Pursuing Virtue, Knowledge and Action; Cherishing Nation, University and People," and to continue striving jointly to advance their alma mater into a high-level, multidisciplinary and distinctive research university.

The assembly reviewed and approved the alumni association's charter and the inaugural council member list. Chen Huidong, an alumnus from the Class of 1998 majoring in Industrial Analysis, was elected as the inaugural president of the Ocean and Environmental Industry Alumni Association. Vice President Qu Zhigang and President Chen jointly unveiled the plaque for the association.

In his address, President Chen outlined the future development vision and implementation pathways for the association, pledging to unite and lead alumni in actively contributing to the construction of the "Pioneer Ecosystem." Professor Liu Wenling, Honorary President of the association and former Party Secretary of the College of Ocean and Environmental Science, expressed expectations in his speech for the association to consolidate strengths, serve the industry, and give back to the alma mater.

Researcher Su Yi, Secretary-General of the Environmental Impact Assessment Branch of the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry, shared development opportunities in the ecological and environmental protection field from an industry perspective. During the industry development seminar segment, Professor Liu Xianbin, Professor Sui Liying, and Associate Professor Dong Chunming delivered thematic presentations that sparked cutting-edge disciplinary discussions. Invited alumnus Si Chaosheng shared practical achievements on the "Application of Remote Sensing Technologies for Monitoring Urban Greenhouse Gases and Hazardous Gases," which served as a vivid demonstration of the precise alignment between the university's educational outcomes and industry needs, highlighting alumni's commitment to giving back to their industry.

Moving forward, the Ocean and Environmental Industry Alumni Association will implement regional liaison and specialized sector responsibility mechanisms to precisely align resources and enhance service effectiveness. It will actively promote the development of a "Pioneer Ecosystem" characterized by university-government collaboration, university-enterprise cooperation, inter-university mutual learning, and alumni participation. By uniting domestic and international alumni strengths, the association will empower the robust growth of marine and environmental causes through collaborative innovation.
